seeking smoked hickory tea

by teachat » Jun 7th, '05, 16:24

Bought this 4 years ago at a Seattle coffee bar in South Africa, have inever been able to find it since. Searches on google yield nothing. Please suggest if you know of an internet shopping site, or a store in the United States, where this tea is sold.

Writer, editor, irascible curmudgeon

I have never run across a hickory smoked tea, and I don't think that hickory is native to tea growing areas such as India and China. So I wonder if you might be thinking of one of my favorites, lapsang souchong. It has a rich smoky aroma but it is smoked over pine needles rather than hickory.

The version they have at Adagio is one of the best that I've found. You'll find it at:
http://www.adagio.com/black/lapsang_souchong.html

Try a sample. I think it's what you're looking for.

Lauren,

Do you maybe mean chickory? Roasted chickory bark is a common addition to coffee in the Southern US, and I know people drink a "tea" made just from the bark without the coffee, though I've never had it by itself.

Have you tried Lapsang Souchong? It has a very smoky flavor and taste. I have this tea in my shop At 320 Callow in Bremerton,WA.

Chickory

Chickory hasn't got any bark...it's a little plant with purplish blue flowers...often it grows on roadsides?
Humans are a dangerous breed...just look at what they do to each other.
