My travel gaiwan/teapot came in a zippered, cushioned case--I think the boxes modern Yixing teapots come in are PERFECT for transporting pots. I just carried one back from Guangzhou in my backpack and it was perfectly fine in the box. Rubber bands to hold the lid on, and tissue paper between the lid and body if the lid is delicate. I am usually too nervous to travel with Yixing, but I think it's totally doable as long as you have a good box and lots of cushioning.
