Just received my glass gaiwan from DTH

I just received a 200cc glass gaiwan from DTH, its definately not worth buying, walls are paper thin extremely hard to decant when hot and when decanting it spills all over. I don't know if its a design flaw or what but my suggestion is to stay away from it

It does look like the brim of the cup is not very wide, keeping fingers close to the hot contents.

have you tried filling it with less water? The farther away the water level is from the rim, the easier it is to use a gaiwan. Though to be honest, that doesn't look like a great gaiwan to begin with. The brim's not very flared, as mentioned earlier, plus that topknot doesn't look too easy to hold on to.

if you are still intending to buy gaiwans from dth, here is my recommendation... these might be a bit big, but i got these way back and are still in use today... color is ivory white which is very elegant looking. both have thin walls too which is also a plus for me. gaiwan and pitcher does get hot as with any other gaiwans im sure... but you can have the other pitcher that has a handle... i dont like handles cause it just doesnt look nice to me... seems out of proportion to the elegant curves of the pitcher.

Thin walls is exactly what you do want with a gaiwan - it makes it easier to use. It sounds like you are filling the gaiwan too full -- try making sure it doesn't fill near the brim, and you should be fine - it should also help with the pouring.
